Reading History

  • Reading with my mom and dad

My first memory of reading is when my mom and dad would read to me as a child. I loved the book The Whispering Rabbit by Shel Silverstein. I would want my parents to read me this story every night. It started my love for books.
  • A Book About Me

For my birthday when I was three or four, my grandfather had a book about me made. The story portrayed me as a mermaid and had my parents, aunts and uncles in the story. I loved this book and loved to have it read to me.
  • Kindergarten Reading

My second memory of reading is reading The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein in Kindergarten. We did an entire unit on this book and it was fun to integrate being read to and reading on my own.
  • The Junie B Jones Era

I was an avid reader as a young child. Many of the books that I read as a child were the Junie B Jones books by Barbara Park. These books were fun and I could relate to the character Junie B Jones because of the interactions she had in school.
  • Magic Tree House

The Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborn continued my love reading as a child. I can remeber reading those stories and imagining that I could go on adventures like the characters in the story did.
