I'd rate this novel 3.5 stars out of five stars. It's the sequel to the first book but it milks the main plot by a landslide and some of it can be confusing to read, though other than that the book has interesting characters such as Crispin and Bear, the main character, and relatable scenes.

This book deserves a 5 out of 5 stars because from the very beginning of the book, it entices you with ominous characters that you learn to love and favor. It also leaves you breathless with vivid imagery showing you a whole world inside a book.
-
this book deserves a 4.5 out of 5 rating because it entices you, but it lacks character explanation in some ways. Other than that this book is a great one to read and leaves you on the edge of your seat.
-
This book deserves a 5 out of 5 rating because though this is the first book in the Giver quartet, it shows you the downside of what we all think of, a perfect society.

As a reader, I've grown by learning new words I've found in books such as the word tyke, meaning small child. As a thinker, I've grown by now being able to think of new ideas to create a better future for myself, and others. So as a personal goal for next year, I want to learn all this again to perfect my skills as a reader and a thinker to make sure I can give everyone a better future.
