Introduction
Hazel is a poor black girl. She doesn't do work around like most girls doesn't earn money by hustling and anything else that has to be done her father does. All she has to do is take care of her brother Raymond. -
Hazel
Everyone always says that they don't need to practice anything but Hazel is always running because she is competitive and she has a name to hold in first place. -
Hazel & Raymond
They are walking down the street when they run into Gretchen. She is the most popular girl in school with her little sidekicks who used to be friends with Hazel. They also always make fun of Raymond. -
Gretchen
When they run into each other in the streets they all make fun of Raymond because he's not that smart. That's when Hazel stands up for him and Gretchen tells her that she's going to win the race. -
The Race
Hazel has waited all day laying in the grass listening to music waiting for her race because it was the last program. -
The Chat
The race director tries to tell Hazel to let Gretchen win but Hazel would never let someone win when she knows that she can beat them. -
The Mayday Race
As soon as the bullet went off Hazel felt scared. But after a few seconds she was herself again and was ready to win the race. She was looked to the right and she saw Gretchen right beside her then Hazel got worried and she knew that she had to win. And when she looked to the left she saw Raymond on the other side of the fence and he was winning his own race and she felt so proud of him. She realized even if she lost Raymond would still win and she could be his coach. -
She Won
When she finished the race she knew that she won but the judges were not so sure because it was a very close race between her and Gretchen. When they annouced the winners Hazel came in first and Gretchen came in second. But Haze felt bad so she told Gretchen congratulations.
