    -(1954) Brown v. Board of Education desegregated schools by declaring segregation in public schools is unconstitutional.
    -The beginning of racial violence and discrimination in the same school. After this point, people who were with segregation started attacking people of a different race.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    -(1957) Little Rock Incident shows that the new threat is racial discrimination and violence in public schools.
    -President Eisenhower sends military support to prevent any violence against the new students. This shows the first time political action was needed.

    John F. Kennedy becomes presidents and pushes for the civil rights movement and works toward eliminating any segregation barriers left.

    With this passed, racial segregation became a thing of the past. This act basically ended all remaining forms of segregation. This event tragically led to riots and the assasination of Martin Luther King Jr., which in turn led to more riots and violence, not only on the streets but also in schools.

    Richard Nixon proposed this act and it gave money to schools who were desegregating. More schools desegregated and a effort to mix children across schools districts was made.

  • Miami Race Riot

    A black man was chased down and beaten for commiting a traffic violation. This sent the black community into a mass riot that lasted days. This also affected the entire city, including high schools. 3 people were killed and 23 injured so the national guard was called in.
  • 1990 Inglewood School Riot

    Tensions increase among black and latino students as the latino students didn't want to celebrate Black History Day, and the blacks ditched school on Cinco De Mayo to have revenge against them. A fight broke out in front of the school that involved 30 students.
  • Westminister High School

    A fight among Latino and Asian students fought leading to injuries. This caused students to move to schools that had a majority of their race, leading to de facto segregation and increasing racial tensions.
  • Racial Violence Today
