Baby girl born
Kendall came into the world with a normal and natural birth. Labor was 10 hour which is a little under the average 12 hours (pg. 86). -
To breast feed or not to breast feed?
Spite what people think of breastfeeding, we have chosen to breastfeed due to the benifits for the baby. Breastfeeding can reduce obesity, give disease protection, higher cognitive development, and all around better health for the child (pg. 112). -
Sleep
Kendall is where she needs to be when it comes to sleeping at night. She is now about 3 months old and is sleeping around 6 hours a night (pg. 133). -
Object permanence
Kendall is 8 months now and loves to find a hidden object. She can only find the object when it is placed in the same spot. When she looks for the object that is located in a different place she only looks where she knew it was last hidden. Piaget called this the "A-not B error" (pg. 150). -
9 month check
Kendall is advancing at an average pace with her gross and fine motor skills (pg.141) She is crawling, pulling up to stand and manipulating objects. -
Potty Trained!
Kendall is now two years old and potty trained! Parents in the late 20th century woud punish their children when they had an accedent. Not only was the parents way of toilet training in those days harsh, this could result in the child having psychological damage. Since the 1950's and the invention of the electric washer and dryer, and also the disposable diaper, parents have been more patient with the childrens toilet training. pg. 184-185 -
Music
At age six kendall is in love with music and singing. She can play a song by ear on the keyboard. After seeing the interest in musical instruments I decide to start her on piano lessons. By this age she can connect musical songs with emotions. pg. 275 -
Obesity
At 10 years old Kendall has been going to a dance studio for several years now. She is recommended to join the dance competition team. By her staying active in physical activities like dancing, this helps her to keep from child obesity which is a problem at this age. pg. 287 -
Sweet Sixteen
Sixteen is here and driving is underway. Her boyfriend recently broke up with her and she hasn't been doing well about it. She is still doing her dance competitions and just finished helping with the choreograph for a dance this year. But on her off time she finds herself with the bad friends. She called one night for a ride home and was drunk. The hangover the next morning was all it took for her not to drink again. I think she went to alcohol as a kind of self-medication over the break up. -
18 and still at home
After high school Kendall worked at the local grocery store while attending some community college courses. She is not exactly sure what she is wanting to do in life yet. She was laid-off from the grocery store and is seeking part-time employment. The average American between the age of 18-30 hold between 7 to 8 different jobs. Pg. 442
