    The court ruled the 1st Amendment protected all speech unless it causes harm to the community.

  • JFK as President

    John F. Kennedy is elected President. He was the Democrats nominee and had Lyndon B. Johnson for Vice President nominee.
  • Failed Invasion

    President Kennedy had the CIA plan an invasion tooverthrow FIdel Castro. The CIA trained cuban exiles. The invasion was launched and failed.
  • Mapp v. Ohio

    The court rulled that no illegal evidence can be used in court.
  • Berlin Wall

    In Berlin, the Berlin Wall was created to separate West Berlin from East Berlin. The wall was built by the SOviets mainly to keep anyone from East Berlin from going to East Berlin.
  • Engel v. Vitale

    The court ruled a state could not prohibit the use of contraceptives.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    U.S. sets up a navl blockade around Cuba after suspecting the Soviets of giving long range missles to Cuba. The Soviets repond by asking for the U.S. to remove missles from Turkey. Both SIdes agree to each other's demand and the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was signed to end nuclear weapons from being tested.

    Afetr Kennedy's death, Johgnson takes over and declares a war on poverty. The Offic of Economic Opportunity is created to combat poverty. The OEO creates self-help programs to help the poor.
  • Gideon v. Wainwright

    The court rulled the state must porvide a lawyer for those who cannot afford one.
  • Kenndy killed

    President Kennedy is killed in Dallas, Texas byLee Harvey Oswald.
  • 1964 Election

    Johnson won the election. He used TV ads to help boost his own popularity and weaken his opponents.
  • CIvil RIghts Act

    This Act made it illegal for separate facilities. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commision was created to have no discrimination for any job.
  • Escobedo v. Illinios

    The court rulled police need to tell someone arested that they have the right to remain silent.
  • VIetnam War

    Vietnam was devided into a communist north and a noncommunist south. Preident Kennedy believed in the Domino Theoryof communism spreadin further down SouthEast Asia. The U.S. sent in troops to defend South VIetnam. The SOviets supported North Vietnam.
  • Voting Rights Act

    This Act made it easier for blacks to vote. Literacy tests were removed allowign for blacks to vote without any major problem.
  • Miranda v. Arizona

    The court ruled the right for a lawyer to be present during questionig.
