    Women's Suffrage- NWSA formed
    Woman began fighting for their rights. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton founded the National Woman Suffrage Association (later on in 1890 they united with another group and became the NAWSA- National American Woman Suffrage Association). Women were fighting mainly for their right to vote. Also, in 1896 the NACW, National Association of Colored Women, was founded.

    After the Civil war, poor women were not only expected to take care of the home and the family, but they had to work. There were woman in the industry, working on farms, and as domestic workets. These uneducated laborers started efforts to reform the workplace health and safety.

    Roosevelt did not believe that all trusts were harmful, but he wanted to curb the actions of the ones that hurt the public interest. Nearly all the suits filed against the trusts under the SHerman Act were ineffective because the act's vague language made enforcement difficult. Roosevelt's administration filed 44 antitrust suits, winning many, and breaking up some of the trusts.

    President Roosevelt tried to benefit both the public health and the environment.In 1906 he pushed for the passage of the Meat Inspection Act because of the disgusting condition of the industry.Novelist Upton Sinclair was hired to investigate the meat-packers. Due to his observations his novel,The Jungle, revealed that workers added dead and putrid rats, feces, hair, and bones to the vats along with the carcasses of hogs and cattle.The act dictated strict cleanliness requirements for meatpackers.

    Pure Food & Drug Act by Roosevelt Administration
    Before federal regulations were established for advertising food and drugs, manufacturers claimed that their products accomplished things such as curing caner to growing hair. Also children's medicines contained opium, cocaine, or alcohol. Then Pure Food and Drug Act was passed which stopped the sale of contaminated foods and medicines and called for truth in labeling. It reflected the progressive belief that given accurate information, people would act wisely.

    The 17th amendment, adopted in 1913, provided for the election of the U.S. senators by the people, rather than by state legislatures.
  • Federal Reserve System by Wilson Administration

    Federal Reserve System by Wilson Administration
    Federal banks could issue new paper currency in emergency sistuations, and member banks could use the new currency to make loans to their customers. Also, federal reserve banks were able to transfer funds to member banks in trouble, saving the banks from closing and protecting customers' savings. This system still serves as the basis of the nation's banking system.

    Clayton Antitrust Act by Wilson Administration
    Wilson's administration was made to strengthen the Sherman ANtitrust Act of 1890. It porhibited corporations from acquiring the stock of another if doing so would create a monopoly. If a company violated the law, its officers could be prosecuted. Also, it specified that labor unions and farm organization not only had a right to exist but also would no longer be subject to antitrust laws. Strikes, peaceful picketing, boycotts, and the collection of strike benefits became legal.

    After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.

    Prohibits a United States citizen to be denied the right to vote based on sex. Gives women the right to vote.
