In Manhattan NY, The Asch Building on the 9th and 10th floor, there was 146 deaths and 71 injuries. It was one of the deadliest industrial disasters of New York. The fire cause the death of garment workers. The owners had locked the doors to stairwells and exits, locking workers in was common practice to prevent stealing or unauthorized breaks. There was no alarm system to warn people that might have been saved. Fire escapes were faulty and difficult to get to.
