Pendleton Civil Service Act

1883

This stopped government employees being selected based on popularity and political ties. This act also made it illegal to fire or demote government employees for political reasons.

Sherman antitrust act

1890

This was created to stop people from intervening with trade because of their power. This prevented monopolization.

Homestead act

1892

This act made it so that anyone who had never bared arms against the United States of America could claim 160 acres of land for free to help cultivate land.

First Airplane

1903

This was a huge step for transportation among states and even countries.

Pure food and drug act

1906

This was deeply important for sanitation especially in cities where sanitation was poor. This kept food, water and drugs clean.

Taft elected as President

Taft was a progressive president that help lead America in the right direction in the progressive era addressing reforms.

NAACP Founded

The NAACP was a African American interracial organization that addressed segregation and social and political discrimination.

Wilson was an important progressive era president because he addressed reform with federal reserve.

16th Amendment

1913

This initiated the right to impose federal tax.

Washington Suffrage Parade

Mar 3, 1913

This parade was thrown in order to gather women to protest their right to vote.

17th amendment ratified

Apr 8, 1913

This allowed voters to cast direct votes.

18th amendment

1919

This made it illegal to transport or trade alcohol.

19th amendment

1920

This gave women the right to vote which was a huge step in the right to equality.
