  • First Transcontinental Railroad

    First Transcontinental Railroad
    Union Pacific Railroad and Central Pacific Railroad were chosen for the first transcontinental railroad in 1869. This railroad was 1,907 miles and connected with existing Eastern railrads to San Fransisco.

    Pendleton Act
    The Pendleton Act created a federal civil service where workers could be hired based on competitive exams instead of political influence.

    Sherman Antitrust Act
    Made it illegal for buisnesses and corportions to get control of industries by making trusts. This helps prevent currupt bargains in the government and saves Americans money.

    Hundreds of thousands of people had immigrated to the United States hoping for their "American Dream". Many of those immigrants were italian. with so many people populating the United States they didn't all have jobs so some has to resort to crime. They formed mafias. By the early 1900's every major city in the US had its own mafia.

    "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair
    Upton Sinclair wrote "The Jungle" whoch was a book that revieled the trusth about the meat industry. This contributed to the creation of the Meat Inspection Act of 1906.
  • Teddy Roosevelt's time as President

    Teddy Roosevelt's time as President
    He served his terms from September 14, 1901- March 4,1909. In that time he outlined many Progressive reforms, increaseed the number of wild life sanctuaries, and increased the number of national parks.

    Later ratified on Febuary 3, 1913, this ammendment states that the government can colelct taxes on incomes.

    This ammendment gives US citizens the right to vote to elect their state's senators.

    18th Amendment Passed
    This amendment made alcohol manufacturing, sales, and transportation illegal. It was ratified January 16, 1913 and repealed byt the 21st amendment in 1933.

    This amendment gauruntees all women who are US citizens the right to vote.
