Homer Adolph Plessy took the only seat left in a whites only cart and refused to move when told. He was arrested and put into jail. Plessy made a petition against judge Hon. John H. Ferguson. Claiming that the law violated the 14th amendment Equal Protection Law. Supreme Court said African Americans were "separate-but-equal" and they get political rights but not social rights.
