    The Progressive Era was a time of change and reform in American history.

    Jacob Riss
    Jacob Riss was a muckracking journalist who spoke through his photography. Jacob Riss's work "How the other half lives" was photojournalism about the lower east side of manhatten and how the living conditions of the poor were in that area. He took many photos of the living conditions that caught many peoples attention. He was progressive because he took the pictures to show people that there needs to be social welfare reform which was one of the four main goals of the progressive era.

    Eugene Debs
    Eugene debs was the founder of the American socialist party. He is considered a progressive because he helped with economic reform which was one of the goals of the progressive era. He formed one of the first railroad unions which was also progressive falling under the goal of protecting social welfare, by bettering the life of the workers and putting another power against the railroad owners.

    Upton Sinclare
    Upton Sinclare was a muckraker who exposed the bad conditions in the chicago meat industry through the book the Jungle. The Jungle revealed to the public that conditions in the meat industry were realy bad and needed reform. In the jungle it explained that all the meat was not pure and, went into details about the working conditions. Upton Sinclare was progressive because he exposed problems, and pushing social welfare.

    H.G. Wellsw was a muckraker writer who showed people his views through books. He is progressive because he wrote about the problems that black americans would face which showed people that there had to be changes which helped with the progressive goal of protecting solcial welfare.

    Charles Evans Hughes was a progressive leader who ran for president and was the governor of New York. Hughes was considered progressive because he wanted to increase the standard of living for the people in New York which was one of the four progressive era goals which was protecting social welfare.

    A progressive politician who ran for presidency 3 times.He was progressive because he believed in progressive ideals such as trust busting and prohibition. These progressive ideals were part of the economic reform, and moral improvement goals of the progressive era.

    Business reform was an important ideal during the progressive era because some businesses were getting too powerful in the eyes of many and companies would work together to get more out of the consumer. this led to Economic reform through trust busting which was one of the big goals during the progressive era.

    Labor reform played a big part during the progressive era because during this time peoples jobs were very long hours of backbreaking work with minimum pay so the government wanted to help tthis issue through labor reform. Labor reform is a progressive ideal because it protects the poeples social welfare by not making people work their life away.

    Hiram Johnson was part of Roosevelts cabinet so he shared many similar views to him and helped Teddy pass his progressive laws such The California Alien Land Law of 1913, and limiting railroad owner's power.

    Woodrow wilson was a democratic president of the United states. Woodrow wilson pushed his progressive agenda and created the Federal Reserve Act, Federal Trade Commission Act, the Clayton Antitrust Act, the Federal Farm Loan Act and started an income tax which was all economic reform. He was also a big supporter for womens rights which is protecting social welfare a main goal of the pregressive era.

    Corrupt Practices Reform was reform regulating campaign finances. It also tried to get rid of trusts made by businesses. This reform is progressive because it is economic reform and improving morals making it so there is less corruption in the government.

    Roosevelt was president for two terms. He was a trust buster which was an idea for economic reform that the progressive party was for. After Roosevelts first two terms he wanted to run for president again after his break from office but the Republican party will not nominate him. Because the republican party does not nominate him he runs under the progressive party. He looses this election to Wilson.

    The 16th amendment is an amendment that imposed an income tax of 3% on anyone making more than a set amount of money which at the time was $800 annually. This is progressive because it fits under the progressive era goal of economic reform. Prior to this amendment the governments main source of income was off tariffs which were not favorable amoung progressives. This amendment can help lower of even get rid of tariffs which would be very favorable by progressives.

    This amendment made it so congressmen had to be voted in by a popular vote they could not be appointed. This was a progressive movement because it improved social welfare. This amendment improved social welfare because it gave people even more of a say in the government and bettered the peoples quality of life, by being able to choose representatives that they feel represent them the best.

She is also one of the first social workers. She is a progressive reformer because she was working to protect social welfare which was one of the main goals of the progressive era.

    The 18th amendment established the prohibition of alchohol. This is a Progressive era amendment because it promotes moral improvement which was one of the 4 main goals of the progressive era.

    The 19th Amendment gave every U.S. citizen the right to vote. This is a progressive amendment because it is promoting social welfare by making everyone more equal and improving the lives of many people especially women.

    Robert La Follette was a congressman who ran for president. He lead the most sucessful leftwing presidential campaign.Robert La Follette was a progressive on most if not all the views he had. A few goals that he had was government takeover of railroads, elimination of private utilities, outlawing child labor, increase protection of civil liberties,and protect the right for workers to form unions. These laws were economic reform,and protecting social welfare which were goals of the progressives.
