Progressive Era

  • social Justice reform

    Social justice reform originated in cities in the 1890s, also became a force for progressive reform at the local level. Settlement houses offered social services to the urban poor, especially immigrants.
  • Labor reform

    Labor reform was when industries employed children as young as five or six to work as many as eighteen to twenty hours a day. Reformers believed that child labor was inhumane to children and society. They believed that children should be protected from harmful enviornments so that they could become healthy, productive adults.

He was an American union leader, one of the founding members of the industrial workers of the word, and several times the candidate of the socialist party of America for the President of the United States. His role in the Progressive era was the growth of the Socialist party of America (SPA). This growth made SPA the third largest party passing both the prohibition and populist parties.

    The 19'th Amendment was adopted on August 18, 1920. It prohibited any United States citizen drom being denied the right to vote on the basis of sex.
