  • Corrupt Practice Reform

    This act limited power of companies that controlled a high percentage of market share. It restricted conspiracy to block trade. This relates to the Progressive era because it was a measuse taken away from the people to have better.
  • Robert La Follette

    Robert La Follette
    Robert La Follette was an American senator from Wisconsin from February 6, 1895 – February 24, 1953. He was important to the progressive era becuase he reformed the nations voting system allowing citizens to select nominees for upcoming elections.
  • Eugene Debs

    Eugene Debs
    Debs created the American Railroad Union (ARU) which over time grew to become huge. Hewas imprisoned durring the time and overcame ideas of socialism. WHen released Debs made a speech which made him nominee for presidency for the socialist party. When elected president Debs did many things to change the Country. HIs ideas and opinions/belifes led to reform durring the Progressive era.
  • Social Justice Reforn

    In 1896, Women did not have the right to vote when men did and because of that, The National American Womens Suferage Association was formed arround 1896. Obviously this was not fair to the women so protest began to struck by the women.
  • H.G Welles

    H.G Welles
    H.g welles was the father of the progressve movement. He played a key role in the Progessve Era, because he urged for change with his uncharacteristic ideas during his time period. He was a well known scientfic ficton author who wrote books such as "Anticipations of the Reaction of Mechanical and Scientific Progress Upon Human Life and Thought" He was also well known for his beleif that people under a assured brainpower should not reproduce, because we should create our species to flourish.

    A Mucker: Thomas Nast
    Thomas Nast used cartoons to attack the government, including the trade unions and the catholic church. People strongly dissagreed with his work even though Roosevelt appointed him to the U.S. consul in Ecuador. This was only because he was financially deprived
  • Public service Reform

    The Pure Food and Drug act was installed to helped the citizens by guarenteeing that all food and medicine sold, manufactured, and transported contained non harmful substances. This took steps towards creating a better life for the citizens which was the goal of the Progressive era.
  • Business Reform

    Teddy Roosevelt played a large role in business reform in 1904. Roosevelt supported big business owners as long and they set fair working conditions for their workers. This made the Progressives support Roosevelt in the presidental election. In the end Roosevett helped the Progressive era by helping the consumer and regulating businesses.
  • Upton Sinclair

    Upton Sinclair
    Upton Sinclair was mainly known for his role as an author. He wrote "The Jungle" which told the people how diseased cows were used for meat. Also how rats were stuffed into sausage makers, and how all the inpectors were bribed and given money to basically turn the other way when they came in for inspection. This ended up leading to the creation of The Pure Food and Drug Act.

    Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th president of the United states. He was president from 1901-1909. His importance to the progressive era is because he wanted to help the common person and with the efforts he put in, He got the meat inspection act passed which made it so only safe clean food can be sold to consumers. He did many great things for this era, including the Elkins act and the Hepburn Act.
  • Charles Evans Hughes

    Charles Evans Hughes
    Charles Evans Hughes was a man who was greatly involved in government for most of his life. He was the governor of NY from 1907-1910 and later became Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. He led the progressive movement by keeping the government up and running and enhancing their power.
  • William Jennings Bryan

    William Jennings Bryan
    William Jennings Bryan was a Congressman from Nebraska. He was nominated to be president for the third time, but lost to William Howard Taft. He was in congress for two terms, but never became president so he elected Woodrow Wilson to be president and became Secretary of State under Woodrow Wilson. This had an effect on the Progressive era by helping the leaders making decisions at that time.
  • 16th Amendment

    16th Amendment
    The 16th Amendment gave congress the right to impose a federal income tax. This meant that an individual person, rather than a buisness, has money taken out of their paycheck and given to the government. The 16th Amendment relates to the Progressive era because the addition of an amendment means reform.
  • Jane Addams

    Jane Addams
    Jane Addams was an extermily smart women. She belived in the Womens sufferage and became the leader in it. Jane Addams was Teddy Roosevelts main supporter in the election of 1912 and founded the Woman's International League for Peace and Freedom.
  • Hiram Johnson

    Hiram Johnson
    From California, Hiram Johnson was the leading American progressive and isolationist politician. In 1916 Johnson ran for the U.S. Senate, and later assumed office on March 16, 1917. Hiram Johnson Sucessfully led fights for institution of initiative, referendum and recall laws, the direct primary election, the eight-hour work day for women and children, the Workers Compensation Act, pensions for retired teachers, and more government control of the railroads and utilities.
  • National Child Labor Committee

    This committee was used to help better the conditions of child labor. By 1912, this committee had helped better the conditions of child labor by passing laws in 39 states. This went along smoothly with the progressive era because the government of this time period strived for reform and progress.
  • 17th Amendment

    17th Amendment
    The 17th Amendment was ratified on April 8th, 1913. This exchanged the choice of the U.S senaters by the state legislatures that provided a direct election for senators. The progressive era helped make this new ammendment because they were constantly looking for change and the want for reform helped push this amendment.
  • Woodrow Wilson

    Woodrow Wilson
    Woodrow Wilson served as president from 1913-1919. Wilsons main goal was fighting for a stronger central government, labor rights, and an anti-trust legislation.
  • 18th Amendment

    The 18th amendment banned the sale, transport, and manufacture of alcohol. In 1933 it was repealed by the 21st amendment. Although it was repealed, it went along with the era by reforming what existed in order to try to better society
  • 19th Amendment

    19th Amendment
    The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. It stated that the right to vote will not be restricted by the U.S. government depending on the sex of the person. This became greatly important because it took a huge step of progress for women. Without the 19th amendment, women may still not have the right to vote today.
