    A German submarine fired on the US destroyer Greer in the Atlantic. Roosevelt ordered the navy to shoot the German submarines on sight. Then German U-boats sank the US destroyer and killing more than 100 sailors.

The next morning a japanese drive-bomber swooped low over pearl harbor, the largest us naval base in the pacific. The bomber was followered by more than 180 japanese warplanes launched from 6 aircraft carriers.
