    ADA first appeared in 1980 and was designed by Jean Ichbiah, CII Honeywell Bull, and then Tucker Taft in later years. Ada was named after Ada Lovelace, who is sometimes credited as being the first computer programmer. It was intended to supersede the hundreds of programming languages then used by the DoD.
