    King Saud of Saudi Arabia is replaced by his son, Faisal, who modernizes the country's administration.

    The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Oregon State Beavers by a score fo 34-7.
  • National-Malcolm X shot

    Malcolm X was shot and killed at a meeting of the OAAU at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, New York.
  • National-Civil Rights Movement

    Martin Luther King, Jr., leads 4,000 people marching from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. On March 7, 600 civil rights marchers are attacked by state and local police with clubs and tear gas. The third march successfully makes it into Montgomery. In New York, Black Muslim leader Malcolm X is assassinated.

    New Zealand now decides that it is time to send military combat forces over to Vietnam to help with the War. They sent 161 Battery units to Vietnam.

    The first Super Bowl was originally called the AFL-NFL World Championship, but was later renamed. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10.
  • International-Apollo astronauts die

    Three Apollo astronauts—Col. Virgil I. Grissom, Col. Edward White II, and Lt. Cmdr. Roger B. Chaffee—killed in spacecraft fire during simulated launch
  • National-Martin Luther King Opposes War

    The Tet Offensive was a large North Vietnam military campaign that launched during the Vietnam War. Almost every city in South Vietnam had military action and combat in it.
  • National-MLK is assanated

    Martin Luther King Jr. is assanated in Memphis, Tennessee on a balcony at the Lorraine Motel.
  • National-Robert F. Kennedy assassinated in Los Angeles

    RFK was presenting a speech at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Kennedy was shot down by an assassin after the speech.

    The Mexico Summer Olympics opened with there ceremonies on this date in history. There was a total of 172 events for 18 sports in these Olympics.
  • International-U.S. athletes take a stand at the Summer Olympics

    Two African-American athletes protested racial discrimination when they were being presented their gold and bronze medals from the Olympic Games. The two were later punished for this act.

    Apollo 8 is the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon. The ship orbitted the moon 10 times before returning. This was the first time humans had traveled to the far side of the moon
