    George Washington was elected for president on February 4, 1789.He was the first president of the United States. He set many examples for future generations. He served two terms as president.
  • Bill of Rights added to Constitution

    Bill of Rights added to Constitution
    December 19, 1791. Madison and some federalist agreed that they were unnessasary, because people already had these natural rights. But, if the constitution was going to be approved by the other states it needed a Bill of Rights. They were intended to prevent government from taking away our rights. These rights can be changed or amended.
  • XYZ affair

    XYZ affair
    The XYZ affair took place on April 1, 1798. After the French objected Jay's treaty, and started seizing American ships. So Adams sent diplomats to Paris to discuss the rights of neutral nations. But Talleyrand didn't want to listen to them, so he sent three agents to offer America a deal to talk with him for $250,000. The Americans angrily turned done the offer and named the agents XYZ.

    Marshall was appointed to be a judge on January 27, 1801 by John Adams. Marshall wanted to make the Federal government stronger. He decided a case that increased the power of the Supreme Court, this case included William Marbury. Also Marshall stated that the Judiciary Act was unconstitutional.
  • Marbury v. Madison

    Marbury v. Madison
    Marbury v. Madison was desided in Febuary 24, 1803. When Mashall was appointed he made a case to increase the power of the supreme court, which included William Marbury. He was appointed to be a judge on the last night of Adams Presidency, and people said Adams was using unfair tactics in doing so. After Jefferson told Madison not to deliver the papers confirming Marbury's appointment, Marbury sued Madison. According to the Judicuary Act, only the Supreme Court could deside the case of Marbury

    On December 1, 1803, the Louisiana Purchase went into effect. After they had approved that this purchase was not unconstitutional, Jefferson signed the treaty for the territory. This land was bought for $15 million from France. And, double the size of the U.S.

    Lewis and Clark's expedition started on May 14, 1804. Since no one new about the new Louisiana lands the goverment gave money for a group of explorers to go explore the new lands. Jefferson wanted Lewis and Clark and their crew to go learn about the Indian nations who lived there. They started up the Mississippi River and ended in the Pacific, through a crazy expedition with lots of adventure they returned home alive.

    The Jacksonian thought the voting rights of white men should be advanced so he helped that be advanced on March 5,1820. At this time Universal white male suffrage was very normal. Also, by 1850 almost all necessities to pay taxes had dropped. As did for owning land.

    President Monroe desided to act independenly of Britain on
    December 2, 1823. He made a bold foreign statement known as the Monroe Doctrine because he was angry about how other nations were acting towards America. Monroe declared that the U.S wouldn't interfere in the affairs of European nations. The Doctrin also stated the U.S would oppose any attemp to try and build colonies in America.
