    Election of George Washington
    George Washington was elected as the first president of the United States. Many people like Washington because of the views he had on the furture of the United States. He became president by unanimimous choice and wanted to remain neutral at war. He set precedents such as serving only two terms and his farewell address.
  • Bill of Rights added to the Constitution

    Bill of Rights added to the Constitution
    A Bill of Rights was added the Constitution that acted as the first 12 amendments in the document. It listed the natural rights of the citizens. Many states refused to ratify the Constitution unless this Bill of Rights was added. In the end. the Bill of Rights was ratified in1791.

    It was the only election in which the presedent and vice presedent are opposing tickets. John Adams got 71 electoral votes. He also carried 9 states. He was our 2nd presedent.

    When Fench objected Jays Treaty, they also began to seize American ships. They then called for war againts the U.S. Adams sent diplomats to Paris to avoid war and discuss the rights of neutral nations in order to avoid war. He only referred to these diplomats as X, Y, and Z.

    This law highly angered the U.S. citizens. It allowed the President to expel any foreigner thought to be a threat to the country. This made it harder for immigrants to become citizens. It was passed by John Adams.

    Law made it a crime to criticize by speech or writing the govt. or constitution. The law was directed against Democratic-Republicans. This limited the freedom of speech and press. Many peopl ewere unhappy with this because they felt like it was not obeying the Bill Of Rights.

    The election of Thomas Jefferson was the first time candidates campained. Thomas Jefferson had served as Washington's secretary of state. And ran a close second to John Adams in the election of 1796. Thomas Jefferson ended up winning the election.

    John Adams appointed John Marshall to Chief Justice.He did so believing that it would save the Constitution from Jefferson’s Repubicans. During his time as Chief Justice, Marshall infulenced the dession the the case of Marbury v.s Madison. John Adam specfifcantly appointed him for this case.

    The case involved William Marbury who was appointed by Adams. The case began because Reulicans refused to accept the Judge and accused the Federalist of using unfair tactics to keep control in the courts.This case helped form the judicial review. It gave the judicial branch the power to declare a law unconstitutional.

    After much debate, Jefferson decided that he did have the authority to purchase Louisiana. Once the treaty was approved by the Senate, the Untied States took control of lands west of the Mississippi River. This purchase gave the United States an opportunity to discover new cultures and ideas for the country. It later resulted in Manifest Destiny.

    This expedition occurred after the Louisiana Purchase. Jefferson was president during this time and wanted to explore west of the Mississsppi River. As a result, he sent Lewis and Clark on an expedition to the pacific coast. It gave the United States away to discover plants, animal life, and geography, and to discover how the region could be exploited economically beyond the Mississippi River.

    Law passed in 1807 and signed by Jefferson. This law stopped all trade between America and any other country. The goal was to get Britain and France to stop restricting American trade. The act was ended in 1809.

This act lifted all embargos on American shipping except for those bound for British or French Pots. This was intened to damage economies of the UK and France. It seriously damaged the economy of the US due to a lack of market goods.

    Case invovled the power of congress to charter a bank. This made a bigger issue of the division of powers between state and federal governments. Marshall eventually ruled in favor of the Federal government. And concluded, "the power to tax involves the power to destroy."

    This meant that only white males at age of 18 could vote for president. This was very unfair for other poele because they did not get a say for who they wanted to be president. It was rude and criticizing to other people. Thankfully today everybody is allowed to vote at age of 18.

James Monroe stated the doctrine during the State of the Union Address to Congress. Written by John Quincy Adams, it became a huge step towards American becoming more independent as a nation.

    Worcester V. Georgia was a court case in which the US states supreme court gave up the conviction o Samuel Worcester. The trail that was helping the Indians stay were they were. This way they would not ave to move to Florida, because they didn’t want to go there. Although in the end they lost and the Indians had to move to Florida.

    The Bank was believed to have too much power and caused a lot of conflict between the Whigs and Democrats. The Whigs wanted to keep the Bank but the Democrats saw the Bank as undemocratic. As a way to resolve this issue, Jackson vetoed the Bank bill bringing on the closing of the Bank. He then ordered the Secretary of Treasury to stop depostiting money into the Bank.
