    Abraham Lincoln
    A poor American boy who worked his way up to presidentiality. Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to set blacks free from slavery. He was assassined by John Wilkes Booth ath the Ford's Theatre.
  • Ulysses S. Grant

    Ulysses S. Grant
    Took office from March 4, 1869 to March 4, 1877
    Under Grant, the Union Army defeated the Confederate military and effectively ended the war with the surrender of Robert E. Lee's army at Appomattox. He effectively destroyed the Ku Klux Klan in 1871. Grant won passage of the Fifteenth Amendment; giving constitutional protection for African American voting rights.
  • James A. Garfield

    James A. Garfield
    Took office from March 4, 1800 to July 2, 1881.
    In 1861, Garfield joined the Union army rising up to being a general and took part in the Battles of Shiloh and Chickamauga.He extended the Congressional service after the Civil War when he was in office. On July 2, 1881-less than 4 months after his inauguration-Garfield was shot by Charles Guiteau, a mentally unstable man who had unsuccessfully sought a government job.
  • Benjamine Harrison

    Benjamine Harrison
    Took office from March 4, 1889 to March 4 1893
    During the Civil War, he served the Union as a Brigadier General in the XX Corps of the Army fo the Cumberland. In 1900, harrison served as an attorney for the Republican of Venezuela in their boundary dispute with the United Kingdom. Harrison died form influenza and pneumonia at his home on Wednesday, March 13 1901, at the age of 67.
  • Grover Cleveland

    Grover Cleveland
    Took office in 1885-1889 and 1893-1897
    Had gained national attention when he opposed Tammany Hall while governor of New York. He doubled the nuber of federal jobs requiring civil service exams. Panic of 1893 hapened during his years in office, making him unlikable.
  • William Mckinley

    William Mckinley
    Took office from March 4, 1897 to September 14, 1901
    Mckinley's time in office was important because the United States oficially became a world colonial power. Furthermore, American officially placed its money on gold standard. He was sht 2 times by an anarchist, Leon Czolgosz, while he was visiting Pan-American Exhibit in Buffalo, New York on September 6 1901 and died on September 14th.
  • Theodore Roosevelt

    Theodore Roosevelt
    Took office from September 15, 1901-March 1909
    Became president in September 18, 1901 after Mckinley go shot and died. Made the "Square Deal" which limits teh power of trust with promot public health and safety, and improving working coditions. Om May 6, Theodore resigned is post as Commisioner and began assembling the United States First Cavalry, also known as the "Rough Riders".He is the leadership of the Progressive Movement.
  • William Taft

    William Taft
    Took office from March 4, 1909 to March 4, 1913
    Served as the tenth Chief Justice ot the United States (1921-1930) and being the first to run in both officas. Taft was appointed Solicitor General of the United States and in 1891 a judge on the United State Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. In 1900, President Mckinley appointed Taft Governor General of Philippines and President Theodore Roosevelt appointed Taft Secretary of War in 1904.
  • Woodrow Wilson

    Wilson successfully pushed a legislative agenda the few president have equaled. This agenda included the Federal Reserve Act, Federal Trade Act, Clayton Antitrust Act, Federal Loan Act, Income Tax, and Adamson Act. WW1 occured during his years in office.

    ARepublican lawyer from Vermont,Coolidge worked his way up the ladder of Massachusetts state politics,eventually becoming governotr of that state.His conduct during the Boston Police Strike of 1919 thrust him into the national spotlight and gave him a reputation as a man of decisive action.Coolidge restored public confidence in the White House after the scandals of his predeceessor's administration and left the office with considerable popularity.
