Pregnancy Timeline

  • Month 1 of pregnancy

    Month 1 of pregnancy
    After conception, the sperm uses its sense of smell to try and find the egg, this can take as long as 3 days. The egg turns into an embryo and moves down the fallopian tube. The embryo bounces around the uterus until it finds a good spot to implant in the lining. The baby's cells multiply and the placental tissue grows. You are more capable of having a miscarriage during these weeks mostly if you were not ready to have a baby and if your body isn't healthy enough to carry a child.
  • Pregnancy at 5 & 6 weeks

    The baby's central nervous system will form. Your baby has a yolk sac that will provide all the nutrients it needs. Other organs are developing, their brain has divided into two lobes, its respiratory system will appear as a groove on its face. Your baby's head is as big as the rest of its body, its arms and legs are starting to grow. Its eyelids and nose are forming and its eyes are fully developed. Sometimes women experience a lot of bleeding during these weeks and may have a miscarriage.
  • Pregnancy at 7 & 8 weeks

    The baby's brain cells are multiplying. Ears are taking shape, it now has joints in its elbows, wrists, and knees. Your baby will weigh in at a half an ounce. Its major organs are almost complete, the skin is formed but it's transparent, the genitals will start to show but you can't tell whether it's a boy or girl. Your baby is no longer an embryo but is now a fetus. Miscarriages will happen if something went wrong with the development of the embryo, it's usually a genetic or chromosomal defect.
  • Pregnancy at 9 & 10 weeks

    The baby is starting to make small movements but you can't feel it. Baby can now bend its arms. All organs are starting to function. Fingers and toes are better defined. Baby now has tubes from its throat to its lungs. Now two inches in length. Yolk sac has separated, the umbilical cord from the placenta is visible now. The pancreas is making digestive enzymes, essential for eating and digesting after birth. Face is starting to look more human. Its able to move its mouth and tongue.
  • Pregnancy at 11 & 12 weeks

    Pregnancy at 11 & 12 weeks
    Baby's starting to have sleeping patterns. Limbs are starting to grow faster than its head and it's starting to look more like a tiny person, also may be able to kick its feet. Genitals have developed fully. Has its own blood supply. Skin is thickening and vocal cords are beginning to form. Face is almost fully formed. Muscles are starting to respond to brain signals. Most people have miscarriages until 12 weeks. If you have a miscarriage by now it is because of a bacterial infection.
  • Pregnancy at 13 & 14 weeks

    Baby's organs now fully formed. Everything is growing really fast right now, by the end of the trimester, baby will be doubled in size. The baby is growing and growing. Baby is almost fully formed but it weighs under two ounces. Baby is producing its own hormones.
  • Pregnancy at 15 & 16 weeks

    Pregnancy at 15 & 16 weeks
    The baby will test out its face muscles by making tons of different faces. Bones are flexible. Make fists and points toes. You may feel your baby move for the first time. The placenta is growing too.
  • Month 5 of pregnancy

    Month 5 of pregnancy
    Baby can kick and move its hands. Developing fat. Baby can taste and hear. You can find out if its a boy or girl. Baby is looking more human.
  • Month 6 of pregnancy

    Month 6 of pregnancy
    Baby is kicking or punching all the time. Covered in that white, pasty layer of vernix caseosa (fat). Aware of your eating and sleeping habits. The baby can hear you clearly. Brain is growing more and baby flutters its eyes open every once in a while. Weighs over a pound now. The baby is used to the mothers voice and prefers it when it is born.
  • Month 7 of pregnancy

    Month 7 of pregnancy
    Weighs 2 pounds now. Inhaling and exhaling and even crying. Placenta is almost fully developed. When the baby kicks it has more of what its personality is like, not its health. Baby may suck its thumb already.
