23 chromosomes come from each parent. This DNA combine and split. Before your baby becomes a baby, it is just a bunch of cells called a Blastocyst.
-
As the group of cells plants itself into the uterus, white blood cells see the sperm and egg as an invader. These white blood cells come in and try to eliminate the "invader", so the group of cells has to send a signal to say that it is supposed to be there.
-
2 weeks into your pregnancy, the cells are officially an embryo. This embryo is the size of a poppy seed.
-
around 5 weeks, your babies heart will start to beat. It beats about twice the rate as the mothers.
-
Around 8 weeks, your baby has formed the beginnings of having arms and legs.
-
Ten weeks into the pregnancy, you can officially call the embryo a fetus! The baby has arms, legs, and organs, although the heart is one of the only ones working.
-
14 weeks into your pregnancy is the start of your second trimester.
-
Although the baby's eyes are still shut, your baby will be able to detect light inside the mothers womb.
-
After 16-18 weeks, your baby will officially have a gender, and you will be able to tell through the sonogram.
-
The baby is now able to start hearing sounds from outside the womb. Try talking to your baby. He/she will be able to hear you.
-
Your baby is almost fully developed. The rest is just growing and maturing of the body's organs.
