Pregnancy Stages

  • Month One

    This is the month you find out you're pregnant with a positive pregnancy test and a missed period. Some changes that you may experience would be nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue, frequent urination, and food sensitivity. The baby is about .1 - .2 millimeters long and is called a blastocyst. All the genetic material is developed and the sex of the baby is decided.

  • Month Two

    The baby goes from a blastocyst to a zygote as it takes on a more human form. Nausea, vomiting, food sensitivity, and fatigue will be more severe to the mother. The mother will experience moodiness while hormone levels adjust and sexual desire will decrease. The baby is a liitle under an inch long and is formed into a tiny human being. The heart is beating and the brain is developing. All the limbs are formed except for the eyes.
  • Month Three

    This is the end of the first trimester and the baby is now full developed. Nausea is decreasing, your middle may widen (uterus is the size of a grapefruit), moodiness and food aversions will subside, and you may experience your first food cravings because your appetite will return. The baby is now a fetus and is 2 - 4 inches long. All the organs are present and the fingernails are forming. The baby is moving, but you won't feel it.
  • Month Four

    Morning sickness fades and you'll start to feel normal again as hormones settle. The second trimester has begun and you'll start to show on the belly. You'll feel quickening and energy will increase. You'll feel less moody and your sex drive will return, but heartburns will develop. The baby is 5 - 6 inches long and weighs up to four ounces. The face and heart are full formed, but the lungs are still developing. The baby's eyes will open and they'll begin to feel the urge to suck.
  • Month Five

    You're halfway through your pregnancy and you'll be showing. You'll gain about 5 - 15 pounds during this time and the uterus is the size of a cantaloupe. Appetite will increase, but fatigue may return. Some may have bloating, constipation, forgetfulness, and your belly button will pop out. The baby is 10 ounces and 6 - 9 inches long. They're covered with fine protective hair and they'll develop fingerprints and teeth buds. Girls' ovaries will develop during this time and sex can be determined.
  • Month Six

    The second trimester is ending anf your uterus is the size of a basketball resting above the belly button. Skin on the stomach can be itchy, and the mother may have bleeding gums, constipation, heartburn, and leg cramps. You'll gain a pound a week and may become tired more easily. The baby is about 10m inches long and weighs over a pound. They'll have noticeable movements and their eyes will open and close. Their vocal cords are working and the finishing touches have developed.
  • Month Seven

    Your feet/hands may cramp and joints may feel more loose. You'll experience more baby movement and may feel non-productive contractions. The baby is developing fat under their skin, is about 12 inches long, and weighs between 2 - 4 pounds. They can now see, hear, taste, and the brain and nervous system are growing.
  • Month Eight

    You'll continue to gain a pound a week and will feel discomfort as the baby pushes on the rib cage or organs. Pelvic pressure will increase, indigestion and heartburn will be more intense, skin will gain stretch marks, and non-productive contractions will be more regular. The baby is about a foot long and weighs about five punds. The lungs are still developing and all organs are complete. The movements will be less and their heads will be down and descending into the pelvic area.

    You'll be tired one minute but energetic the next. You'll be able to breathe more easily, but sleep will be more difficult. Your total weight gain will be an average of 35 pounds during your pregnancy. The baby's lungs are maturing n=and they're shedding the layer of protective hair from the uterus. The brain is growing tremendously this month as the baby is 18 - 21 inches long and weighs about 6 - 8 pounds.
