The Fetal stage begins around week 8 and focuses on growth and development. This includes developing ears, nose, mouth, and eyes along with all major organs. This will last until week 12.
-
The second trimester lasts from 13 weeks to 27 weeks. The fetus is going the double in size and the movements from the fetus may be felt by the mother
-
During this time the fetus will start to develop hearing but the fetus may not respond to sounds outside of the womb until the 25th week.
-
Starting at week 28 and up to delivery is a time for the final touches such as eyelashes and taste buds. With now most of the major development is complete the fetus is going to grow nearly half a pound every week.
-
To make room for growth, the mother's internal organs are going to adjust. The fetus will drop lower into the pelvis and turn head down in preparation for birth.
