    The Bay of Pigs Invasion was an attempt to overthrown Cuba's dictator, Fidel Castro. This attempt was unsucessful and caused friction between the U.S Government and Castro.

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of the most frightening confrentations of the Cold War. The United States found out that the Soviet Union had missile sites in Cuba. This problem ended peacefully because of John F. Kennedy.
  • New Weapons of War

    New Weapons of War
    During Veitnam, The U.S. made up new weapons against the enemy. The sprayed a herbicide Agent Orange which cleared forest vegatation and exposed the enemy. Also they dropped napalm firebombs that burned buildings and forests that caused a lot of destruction to Veitnam population. This lasted throughout the war which the date lasted from 1962 to 1975.

    After an attack on U.S. ships in off the coast of North Vietnam. This made Congress pass the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. The resolution gave President Johnson power to expand the U.S.A's role in Vietnam. We then sent masssive airstrikes against North Vietnam
  • Miranda Rights

    Miranda Rights
    During the court case Miranda v. Arizona, the Warren Court argued that people should be informed of their rights when being placed under arrest. In the court case, Miranda won. This is now called the Miranda Rights.
  • Tet Offensive

    Tet Offensive
    The Tet Offensive was a military Campaign launched on South Veitnam by North Vietnamese troops and Viet Congs. They attacked cities and tried to gain control over parts of South Vietnam. In miltary terms, the U.S was the victor because they did not let them gain control over any parts of Soth Vietnam.
  • Opposing Vietnamese Armies

    The North Vietnamese Army (NVA) joined forces with Viet Cong insurgents. The United States on the other hand was training the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (AVRN) to defend Soth Vietnam.

    Nixon made a policy which was called Vietnamization. Vietnamization turned over to the South Vietnamese government responsibility for the conflict and got our troops out of Vietnam.

    Because everybody was worried about the enviroment, a new enviromental movement was born. Earht Day was created because everybody was worried about pollution. Congresss also passed laws such as the Clean Water Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act to reduce pollution.

    The Energy Crisis was caused by the supply of pertroluem in the world. This resulted with citizens no longer being able to drive their cars and long lines at the gas stations. Also the price of gallons of gasoline affected the energy crisis in the U.S.

    The War Powers Resolution limits a president's ability to send armed forces into combat. Because of Nixon's actions in Cambodia, Congress passed this resolution.

    The Three Mile accident was a nuclear power plant meltdown. This meltdown occured in Dauphin Country, Pennsylvania. The accident had no deaths or any injuries and the site has not been decommisioned.

    The Intermidate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty was an agreement between thr U.S and the Soviet Union. Regan and Mikhail Gorbachev signed this treaty to reduce nuclear weaponns in Europe. Eventually, with U.S. pressure, the end of the Cold War occured along with the collapse of the Soviet Union.

    Saddam Hussein, the dictator of Iraqi, attacked Kuwait. Other neighboring nations called in the United States to help them with Hussein's invasion forces. Later Iraqi forces in Kuwait had either surrendered or fled.

    On Sept. 11th, 2001, al Qaeda forces attacked the World Trade Center and destroyed the two twin towers. They also crashed a plane into the Pentagon. These attackes prompted the United States to declare war with Afganistan and Iraq.
