    The Israeli Prime Minister, David Ben Gurion, announced the creation of the state of Israel. There was great rejoicing in Tel Aviv, but the Arab governments in the surrounding countries objected to the new state and tried to destroy it. As a consequence the armies of Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Transjordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt attacked Israel.

    Supplied food and fuel to citizens of west berlin when te Russians closed off land access to berlin.The consequence was the forming of NATO. It marked the abandonment of isolationism by the U.S.

    The sovieet launched the earth's first artificial satelite. Lead to the creation of NATO. Ignited the Space Race within the cold war.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    1400 Cuban exiles launched what became a botched invasion at the Bay of Pigs on the south coast of Cuba.It was aimed to overthrow Fidel Castro's communist rule. As a result the American CIA demonstrated its ability to plan attacks,
    cuban exiles and anti-Castro forces in Cuba became united,
    many Cuban exiles chose to return to Cuba,
    and the Soviet Union promised to protect Cuba from future attacks.
  • The Cuban Missle Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a thirteen-day confrontation from October 15 to October 28, 1962 between the United States and the Soviet Union over the positioning of nuclear missiles in Cuba. As a result the United States secretly removed all its nuclear missiles from Turkey and Italy, a Test Ban Treaty was signed between the two countries which prohibited the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere

    The ssassination of President Mohamed Anwar al-Sadat was at the hands of four military officers during an annual parade celebrating the anniversary of Egypt's 1973 war with Israel. As a result in Egypt, Mubarak used the assassination as an excuse to declare martial law.

    Elected as the new Supreme Leader by the Assembly of Experts on 4 June 1989. Ayatollah, Khomeini worked to remove the Shah from power for his associations with the West. He lead the Iranian Revolution, successfully overthrowing the last Shah leader,
  • Fall of the berlin wall

    The Border separating Western from Eastern Germany was effectively opened.When the wall fell it ended the Cold War. Communism was no more in Eastern Europe, namely in Germany.
  • Assasination of Israeli Prime Minister Begin

    The assassination was the culmination of Israeli right-wing dissent over the Oslo peace process. This opened the way for the victory of Menachem Begin and the Likud party.
