Post Foreign War timeline

  • Cold War

    The Cold War lasted from 1947 to 1991. The Cold War was a state of political and military tension after WW2 between the Western and Eastern Bloc.
  • Arms Race

    The Arms Race between the Soviets and the U.S. was competions to see who could produce larger numbers of weapons, greater armies, superior military technolgy, etc.
  • Marshall Plan

    A massive aid program to rescue Europe from disaster. Offered to all European countries and called them to take the lead in judging their own needs. Although representatives from the Soviet Union met with others to discuss the plan they withdrew.
  • Truman Doctrine

    An American foreign policy to stop Soviet imperialism during the Cold War.
  • Creation of NATO

    Defensive alliance founded by ten western Europen nations, the United States, and Canada to deter Soviet expansion in Europe
  • Korean War

    The Korean War was a war between North and South Korea. The United States fought for South Korea and China fought for North Korea.
  • Vietnam War

    Was a Cold War era proxy that occured in Vietnam Laos and Cambodia from November 1st 1955 to the fall of Saigon on April 30th 1975.
  • Space Race

    The Space Race started in 1957 and lasted until 1975. This was a 20th century competition between the Soviets and the United States for supremacy in spaceflight capability.
  • Launching of Sputnik

    This was the first artifical Earth satellite launched by the Soviet Union. This triggered the Space Race.
  • Bay of Pigs

    The Bay of Pigs was a failed invasion of Cuba.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    The Cuban Missle Crisis was confrontation between the Soviets and the United States over missles based in Cuba. This was the closest the Cold War came to a nuclear war.
