  • Federalist and Anti Federalist

    First 2 parties were Federalist and Anti Federalist. Federalist were the rich and well born led by Alexander Hamilton. They wanted a strong national government and appealed to financial, manufacturing, and commercial intrest.
  • Democratic Republicans

    Jefferson led the Democratic Republicans. They were unopposed until the 1820's
  • Andrew Jackson

    In 1828 Andrew Jackson's Democratic Party came to power, but were soon crippled by the war.
  • Republicans

    Because Democrats were crippled by war, the Republicans were left to rule for the next 75 years.
  • Democrats

    Democrats did not want Republicans to give African Americans rights, so they ruled the south for the next 100 years.
  • Great Depression

    The Great Depression led to a change in the Political Landscape, and FDR was elected to presidency.
  • Roosevelt's Democrats

    Roosevelt's Democrats were southerners, small farmers, organized labor, and big city political organizations.
  • Modern Republicans

    Believe in increasing military spending, lower taxes, work for what you get, and little government supervision on what money is spent on.
  • Modern Democrats

    Modern Democrats are liberals and are open to change. They favor minimum wage, want to decrease military spending, and support the legality of abortion.
