    PlayStation 2 is the successor to PlayStation (PS1), and competes against Sega's Dreamcast console, Nintendo's GameCube console and Microsoft's Xbox system. It also competes against the Windows XP system from the same manufacturer as the Xbox system. Despite the launch of its successor, PlayStation 3, in 2006, the console remained on the market and with a significant number of users, competing with the consoles of the seventh generation, being the only console that has managed.

    The PlayStation 3 went on sale on November 11, 2006 in Japan,7 on November 17, 2006 in North America8 and on March 23, 2007 in Europe and Australia.9 10 At launch there were two variants: a basic model with a 20 GB 2.5" SATA hard drive and a professional model with a 60 GB hard drive and several additional features, such as twice as many USB ports and backward compatibility with games from its predecessor PlayStation 2 and Playstation 1.

    The PlayStation 5 is powered by a custom system-on-a-chip (SoC) designed jointly by AMD and Sony,30 which integrates a custom 7nm AMD Zen 2 CPU with eight cores running at a variable frequency limited to 3.5 GHz.31 The integrated GPU is also a custom unit based on AMD's RDNA 2 graphics architecture. The GPU has 36 compute units running at a variable frequency limited to 2.23 GHz, making it capable of a maximum theoretical throughput of 10.3 teraFLOPS.
