    America was looking for a better economy, more money, a colony Many people thought that colonizing would be a bad idea because they thought the government will one day allow them to enter the U.S. and they would influence the country in a bad way. As other side of America thought it would be good to get some influence and if not a better economy would be wort the risk. So America decided to colonize so America looked at Asia and found the Philippines and decided to colonize it.

    After the Havana harbor (Maine) sank the United States declared war on the Philippines. Later on in May a U.S. commander, George Dewey attacked a Spanish fleet in Manila Bay and came out with a feat. With the feat they were able to return Aguinaldo to the Philipines from Hong Kong (he was exiled) and America continued to fight with the Filipinos to get control over the land.

    Dewey and Aguinaldo both thought that their victory at the Philippines would make the Philippines independent but that was not the case, as there were U.S. troops were stationed in Manila in August. America started to colonize the Philippines which they bought from Spain for $20 million. Making Spain finally lose control of the Philippines since Ferdinand Magellan (1521)

Americans also lit villages that caused food shortages Filipinos. Americans also set up “policy of attraction” to help the Philippines self-govern.

It was estimated that 4,200 Americans and 20,000 Filipino died in the heat of battle and about 200,000 more from famine, and disease. At this time the U.S. successfully influence the Filipinos with their culture and religion (Protestant Christianity).

This strengths the bond between America and the Philippines because this shows the Filipinos that America trust them on their land. This doesn't just give benefits to Filipinos, it also gives benefits to Americans as Filipinos are now allowed in the country much easier improvement within the country can occur as there are new thinkers and inventors.
