Persuasive Writing Unit

  • Lesson #1

    Lesson #1
    Introduction to the unit plan with the Guidelines will take the first 10 minutes. Introducation to Dr. King's life and how his legacy impacted the nation. The prezi for MLK's life will be shown. Students will be asked to find my resource page in order to complete the homework for the lesson. Located on the Lesson #1 page will be the prezi and brief assessment for students. Lesson #1 will take the entirety of the hour and a half Language Arts time.

    Persuasive Writing Unit

    Students will take four days to complete the persuasive writing unit which will include examples, graphic organizers, and strategies of how to write a persuasive speech.
  • Lesson #2

    Lesson #2
    This lesson will involved the brainstorming that students have created the night before using the Dot Dash program. After discussing the elements they brainstormed, the presentation on persuasive writing will teach the students of the OREO method. Along with this method will be the additional strategies and ways to create a speech. Students will be asked to again refer to the my reference page in order to complete the assignment. The graphic organizer is to be completed and turned in.
  • Lesson #3

    Lesson #3
    Lesson #3 is the formulation of the concrete ideas for the mini speech. The mini speech should be one page and the other guidelines for this project are located on the resource page. The website will be used to access and print the graphic organizer flow chart needed for furthing the speeches. Students write the speech for the following day. They will get time in class to review their ideas with me and get additional help before the final assignement is due. The lesson will take one hour.
  • Final Reflection

    Final Reflection
    Students are asked to reflect and work collaboratively using the TitanPad. This assignment will be mentioned when the students turn in speeches. There will be a review session for the TitanPad during the Language Arts time (10-15 minutes). Students will know which group they are in so they can access the appropriate link on the resource page. Students answer the questions found on the page.
