  • Crash and Spyro Super Pack 1

This is the first video game I can properly remember playing. I took my Gameboy Advance SP everywhere and rarely took this game out. However, I didn't discover that there was more than just the Spyro game on the cartridge until 2 years later!!! My strongest memory is playing this game on holiday in Mauritius and being begged by my mum to put it away so we could go to the beach
Vicarious Visions & Digital Eclipse 2005, Crash and Spyro Super Pack 1, video game, Game Boy Advance, Sierra.
  • Tamagotchi Connection V3

Tamagotchi was all the craze in my primary school and I got obsessed with them along with my friends. My mum still calls my video games my "Tamagotchies" given how much I loved to play with them. The little keychains made them easily playable wherever and the simple controls made them easy to pick up. When the Tamagotchi corner shop games came out on DS, that also fueled me to ask for a DS too.
Bandai 2006, Tamagotchi Connection V3, video game, Tamagotchi Handheld, Bandai.
  • Animal Crossing: Wild World

This game was a great comfort for me during some very lonely times in my life. The ability to log into the game every day and have something new happen, alongside getting to know the villagers that moved into the town, made me feel less alone. This sparked a great love for the series and I have since bought and put many hours into every game in the series, with New Leaf being my most-played game at over 2000 hours.
Nintendo EAD 2005, Animal Crossing: Wild World, video game, DS, Nintendo.
  • Mario Kart Wii

After asking for a Wii for months after my best friend got one, my parents gave me one for Christmas that year with Mario kart Wii. Not only was this my first non-handheld console, it was the first time I was able to play any game with my dad. It was so important to us that when we moved to Australia the next year, we packed the Wii and game in our carry-on luggage so we could play as soon as we got settled
Nintendo EAD 2008, Mario Kart Wii, video game, Wii, Nintendo.
  • Paper Mario

I still haven't played this game for myself however, this was the first game I watched someone else Let's Play which properly sparked my love for video games. Since I moved to Australia that year, I knew no one and so was quite lonely. I filled my time watching Youtube instead and lets player Chuggaaconroy's videos were endlessly entertaining to me. I still watch him to this day.
Intelligent systems 2000, Paper Mario, video game, Nintendo 64, Nintendo.
  • Minecraft

I became obsessed with this game before it came out by watching the Yogscast play the alpha and beta in 2010. This is the first game I can remember my entire school year level becoming obsessed with and playing together is still my strongest memory of year 6. I still play with my friends today and it is one of the ways my long-distance partner and I can hang out despite the distance.
Mojang Studios 2011, Minecraft, video game, PC, Mojang Studios.
  • Dungeons and Dragons - 3.5

I became interested in the 3.5th edition of DnD after watching the Acquisitions Incorporated live shows streamed online. I was gifted my first set of dice and the red box starting kit for Christmas that year after developing an obsession and began to run occasional games for my friends. I now play the game weekly but now in 5th edition.
Wizards of the Coast 2003, Player's Handbook, v3.5, Wizards of the Coast, United States
  • Portal & Portal 2

These two games were the first PC games I bought by myself. I purchased them before getting on a plane to visit family in the UK and was able to play them both on the flights there and back. Not only do these games remind me of those trips, but they also mark my first main foray into games outside of Nintendo platforms.
Valve 2007, Portal, video game, PC, Valve. Valve 2011, Portal 2, video game, PC, Valve.
  • Dandelion - Wishes brought to you

This is possibly my favourite visual novel as my best friend and I played it together on New Year's Eve 2015. We spent hours on a route, only to find out we got the bad ending and the only way we could fix it was going back 7 hours and playing again. I remember begging my dad to let me sleep over so we could see a successful route to no avail.

  • Wandersong

This is probably my favourite game of all time. Watching the streamer Barryisstreaming play through this game brought my attention to it and I've replayed it many times ever since. The integration of the music mechanics with a beautiful story has made it something I've thought about constantly since it came out. Its philosophy on life is also one that's shaped my own and me and my friends reference it to this day.
Lobanov, G & A Shell in the Pit 2018, Wandersong, video game, PC, Greg Lobanov
  • Monster Hunter: World

After getting my gaming laptop I was really excited to finally be able to play more CPU-intensive games with my friends. While I had previously tried playing monster hunter on the 3ds, this entry got me into the series, especially as two of my other friends played fairly regularly, and several others started playing at the same time I did. The art style and the gameplay loop are fairly addictive and I've become a huge fan since.
Capcom 2018, Monster Hunter: World, video game, PC, Capcom.
  • Magic the Gathering

I've always had an interest in magic the gathering but have only begun playing with my friends in the last few years. Through the game, it has given us more of an excuse to see each other each Friday as we play a round of Commander and it even helped two of my friends meet and start dating. It's definitely one of my most anticipated parts of the week and the fact that no two games are alike is a huge draw.
