Pat Mora was born into a bilingual, Mexican-American family in El Paso, Texas. -
Graduated from Texas Western College (now University of Texas at El Paso) with a Bachelor's Degree of Arts -
She then later went on to receive her Master's degree from University of Texas at El Paso -
This is the year that Pat Mora wrote and published her first children's book, A Birthday Basket for Tía. -
Mora officially started planning and started the foundation for "Children's Day, Book Day", or "Día". This is when she received the official endorsement from REFORMA, which is the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking for the project. -
Pat Mora held the first ever "Children's Day, Book Day", or "Día", which celebrates diversity in children's books and the commitment to promote literacy and bookjoy within children. -
Pat Mora received her first Honorary Doctorate degree in Letters from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo -
She also received another Honorary Doctorate degree of Humane Letters from North Carolina State University. -
Mora won the International Latino Children's Book Award for the Best Children's Book for her book, Abuelos. -
Pat Mora won the Lon Tinkle Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Texas Institute of Letters. This award is the highest honor that is given by the TIL, and recognizes her for her distinctive literary achievement. -
Today, Pat Mora is still writing books, with her latest book, My Magic Wand, coming out recently.
