I started my education on A Classroom on Wheels (COW) Bus, where they had bilingual (English and Spanish) class for at-risk families with children ages 3 years to 5 years in underserved communities throughout Clark County. They were helping us get ready for kindergarten by helping us with: Language skills, Counting skills, Pre-reading skills, Creative thinking skills, Fine & Gross motor skills. I remember how the inside of the bus was fun and welcoming, and I loved going.

Kindergarten is where I began my full time in school and learning more in depth reading skills.

My parents would take me and my sisters to the Las Vegas Library and have us check out up to 3 books of our liking and other educational VHS film, such as learn how to read with phonics.

In 3rd grade, I moved school and they had us start this program in helping us with our reading skills. The more points we earned by doing reading, tests and other assessments we were able to decorate our tree houses and win prizes. This made me very eager to improve my reading level for my treehouse. We were also told to do at least one hour of Reading Horizon as part of our homework.

In 5th grade, we had a certain amount of time to read books and tests our comprehension on them. The more book and quizzes we passed, our reading level would go up and we would get closer in getting a certain amount of points in order to go bowling with your classmates who also went up on their reading level.

In middle school, that is where I started to lose interest and motivation in reading because it was forced on us as part of homework/classwork. It wasn't because I personally wanted to read and liked the genre we were reading.

Once I entered high school, I found books that I liked while having to read books for school. I found a balance of reading for school and reading what I wanted to read and what type of books I like. I finished the Maze Runner in one day, which surprised me and my reading skills.

I started to volunteer at an elementary school as part of my senior project. I was helping first graders with reading sight words and reading books to them. It was eye opening to see how you read to get the listeners attention and make sure they comprehend what you are reading. It was nerve-wracking reading to little children.

I started working at a preschool after graduating high school. I work with children from the ages of 1 to 5. After working here, I started to notice and develop the different ways teachers read to specific age groups. As well as how to keep them focused and interested in the book.

At NSC while taking reading literacy class I started to learn and fully understand the meaning of reading and understanding what you are reading. I learned different methods that will help students in the way they learn best, whether it is hands on, visual, auditory, and others. And i get to use them at works with my students and see it happen in person.
