    Notre-Dame de Paris, also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or simply Notre-Dame, is a Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité, Paris, France. The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, and it is among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world. 1163 is the date traditionally used for the laying of the first stone of Notre Dame and the construction was completed by the end of 1250.

    The Louvre or Palais Du Louvre has served several purposes over time. The rectangular enclosure measures 78m by 72m with 10 towers and sorrounded by moalts comprising a circular keep. It was built as a fortress in 1190, transformed as a royal residence in 16th century and eventually become a museum int the 18th century.

    Louis XIII commissioned the palace for the purpose of building a hunting lodge. It should be mentioned that this was the first of several projects that resulted in the expansion of the palace. The project was initiated by Louis XIII and architectural planning carried out by Louis Le Vau so this project can be considered a highly planned project.

    The Arc de triomphe was commisioned in 1806 by Napolean after his victory in Austerlitz when he was at the peak of his fortune. Chalgrin was the main architect. It was completed in 1836 during the reign of King Louis XVIII and he ordered that the Arc de Triomphe de I’Étoile honors the Revolution and Imperial Armies, leaders and victories.

    The two chief engineer, Nouguier and Koechlin had this idea of building a tall tower in 1884.The architect Stephen Sauvestre worked on project’s appearance. All the elements were prepared in Eiffel’s factory located at Levallois-Perret, Parris.     Andre Cassagnes developed a prototype of the Etch A Sketch experimenting with different materials before settling on glass, aluminium powder, a joystick and pulley system assembled in a plastic box. This product was the first of its kind. The Etch A Sketch hit shelves on July 12, 1960.

    TGV (train à grande vitesse) is France's intercity high-speed rail service. The project was started in early 1976 and from its first service in September 1981, the TGV has set a pace in European high-speed (initially above 200km/h) rail operations. The main endeavour of the project is to strengthen services for the towns of Bordeaux, Libourne, Angoulême, Poitiers, Tours, Chatellerault, Orleans and Paris, and cut down on commuting time.

    Opera Bastille-modern theatre
    The idea of having the modern theatre first came up from composer Pierre Boulez, dancer Maurice Bejart and theatre director Jean Vilar. They filed the report with French government. The president Francois Mitterrand like the idea and started working on the project. The architect was Canadian-Uruguayan Carlos Ott. The project was finished with the inauguration of the theatre on July 13 1989.

    Millau Viaduct
    It is a bridge that extends across the valley of the River Tarn in southern france in Millau. The purpose of the bridge was to reduce traffic congestion between France to Spain during the summer holidays. The project was executed by the French government, specifically the Ministry of Public Works, in 1995 with a design competition for the bridge. Foster + Partners won the contract to design the bridge based on designs drawn by their architects and structural engineers.

    The first partial face transplant surgery on a living human was performed on Isabelle Dinoire on 27 November 2005 by Professor Bernard Devauchelle, assisted by Professor Jean-Michel Dubernard at the Centre hospitalier Universitaire Nord in Amiens, France. It took 15 hours, as hundreds of nerve endings were connected and 20 muscles were transplanted.

  • Airbus e-fan Electric airplane

    Airbus e-fan Electric airplane
    Airbus Group developed this electric aircraft with Aero Composites Saintonge. The project was started in late 2011 and first test flight conducted in april 2014 at Mérignac Airport, France.
