  • Cash Machines.

    The first cash machine was introduced back in 1967. This helped the travel industry due to it allowing people to manage their money much easier and safer. cash machines are accessible anywhere in the world and you can use them to get the local currency. Credit/debit cards make paying for goods easier as you don’t have to carry large amounts of money around with you.
  • Development of Tourism Act.

    The Development of Tourism act set up the tourist boards in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Island; Visit England, Visit Scotland, Visit Wales and Visit Northern Island. Ultimately it started to market and promote UK which would in time increase the amount of inbound tourism the UK got. This would increase the gross domestic profit and benefit the economy.
  • Concorde.

    In 1969, the fastest plane at the time was first flown; The Concorde. This aircraft was retired in 2003 due to its only crash back in 2000, people didn’t feel safe. However this revolution of aircraft has sparked off major improvements to current aeroplanes making them faster and more efficient. Aircraft speeds up the process, saving people time and money, therefore increasing global tourism dramatically. Cheaper flight costs also increased global tourism.
  • Media and Communication.

    People are more aware of the different countries around the world and what they're like due to adverts seen on TV/documentaries etc. Someone may see somewhere they think they’ll enjoy visiting and go and book themselves a holiday there. The media is very persuasive as it will only show the audience the good things that they want to see such as extremely hot weather, beaches, waterparks etc, forming an image in the audiences mind that that certain country is like this throughout the whole area.
  • The Internet.

    More and more people are becoming computer literate; they can find everything they need on a computer, they dont have to go out and find the certain product. Due to this, Holiday companies such as Thomas Cook and Thomson have started their own websites where customers can access and create their own holidays, fitting their needs much more. Instead of purchasing a packaged holiday from the retailers, customers are able to buy parts of their holiday from the wholesalers.
  • Packaged Holidays.

    Packaged holidays were first introduced back in 1990. This offered people everything they needed for their holiday which was organised by the tour operators and travel agents. It offered them protection in case of a fault within their holidays.
    The package holidays faded over the years and were then re-introduced in 2009. Since the re-introduction, they have been proven popular amongst tourists.
  • The Channel Tunnel.

    The Channel Tunnel links England and France together; Folkestone, Kent in the UK to Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais in Northern France. The rail tunnel reaches speeds of 160kmph/99mph, therefore speeding up the process of travelling between the two countries, consequently improving tourism within the two. Ultimately, this increases the GDP in both countries, contributing to each of the economies income.
  • Disability Discrimination Act.

    This was put in place for people to stop treating individuals with a disability, differently. The law made people treat people with disabilities with equality. It also allows the government to set minimum standards so that people with disabilities can use public transport easily. For example having ramps instead of/as well as steps on public transport so wheelchair users can access it too.
  • Thorough Checking of Luggage.

    This has always been the case when passing through an airport however in recent years the intensity of this drill has been increased. This may not seem like such a big issue however it makes people feel so much safer about going away on a plane with a bunch of strangers. It also makes their trip through the airport safer, despite it being time consuming.
  • Smart Phones.

    Since the introduction of smart phones, iPhones in particular, the tourism industry has benefitted. It is much easier to book flights with tour operators etc due to them having their own apps available to download. It also allows people to keep up with current trends and factors etc due to all of the apps available.
