    This new technology allows the mass production of printed documents, this was a vast leap in technology but not many people at this time could read. It changed from having only a limited number of documents hand written to having a vast number of printed documents which took less time.

    These journals were published between scientists and engineers, this allowed them to share information and things they have discovered, also it helps them spped up technology change.

    The publication of the first magazine was a big leap in media technology, it allowed for monthly printing. Also the magazines weren't things published by engineers or scientists, they were general interest magazines which showed a lot more people could read around this time.

    This new technology allows for the daily printing of things such as newspapers and magazines, this allows people to react to very recent events, usually the day after they happened. This speeds up the process of people getting the knowledge rather than once a month, they have access to it every day, it also creates the role of a reporter.

    This allows realtime communication across long distances, it was mainly used in business, for example if a company needed to order coal to run there factory they could ring up the coal company and order it directly from them.

    These were only available to the rich as they cost a lot of money, this was a start to something which grew very big over the next century as more and more people could afford them.

    The BBC was state funded and could provide mass broadcast into homes across the U.K, millions of radios were sold as it was a very powerful way of getting things across to the whole nation. for example Hitler used a lot of radio broadcasting to get in to power before the second world war, he also used it during the war for his propaganda.

    This was also state funded as the radio broadcastings were but this was funded via license payers, it is a very powerful form of media as there are 24 million televisions in the U.K today.

    The internet was invented by the U.S military as a way of communication between Military bases in case of an invasion by the Soviet Union. They were capable of communicating to all bases throughout the country even if one or more were destroyed.

    This allows mulitple channels for people to watch and it also was the ground works for broadband in the U.K.

    This first mobile phone cost £2000 and was mainly used by bankers and rich people in the U.K. The phone weighed 1KG and had only half an hour of talk time before you needed to recharge it.

    This was very high tech, it had 100's of channels for people to watch and allowed reporting on wars and riots direct and live from the event. This was a massive speed up in technology as people could see what was happening throughout the world as it happened.

    This has become the most popular form of communication between people. An example of how popular this is, there are 1.2 billion text messages sent per month. In the U.K more people are buying mobile phones which all have the capablilty to text which will also be increasing the number of texts sent per month.

    This only allowed people to search for information and alos to buy things, this was a vast leap forward from the first internet which only allowed communication between U.S Military bases during the cold war.

    This new type of mobile phone were available to everybody which allowed them to become an individual reporter as it allows people to take photos and videos.
  • Web 2.0 emerges

    special networking starts to emerge, social networking such as facebook, twitter etc.
  • Web 3.0 begins to emerge

    Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter begin to appear on mobile phones.
