Haileb takes the first steps in to becoming the father he is to Mawi. I believe this is his forst step to teaching his children that it doesn’t matter where you come from. Hard work and education will pay off.

Mawi's parents stressed the importance of education. This is the major moment in his life. knowing he would have to work harder than most to succeed. He took that chalenge and ran with it.

By working hard and showing a good character. This aided the Asgedom family to find a new home when rent raised and they were evicted.

Mawi’s brother was had him help move some old weights over to his friend’s house. This is where he realized that Tewolde has been helping a homeless man they met outside a library. He had done so much for him despite having so little himself.

When times got hard for Mawi, his family was there to continue to encourage him to believe in himself and not give up.

Just as everything is going as planned for Mawi, he is getting straight A’s in school. His brother is killed by a drunk driver. He loses his best friend and the person who has encouraged him to continue to reach for greatness. He almost gives up on his dreams. In memory to Tewolde, he pushes on.

Tewolde was killed by a drunk driver his senior year of high school. He was on his way to do great things. Now he will look over his brother in heaven. He meant so much too so many. He was an inspiration to his brother, and in death will continue to be an inspiration to him.

Mawi runs in to a friend Berhe, who tells him stories of who his father is. This leads Mawi to the realize his father is and had beed a hero to so many.

Through Mawi’s hard work and dedication, he had earned his acceptance and a full tuition scholarship. This had to do with Mawi’s drive, his academic success, and his character. His ability to see the beauty in others was shown in many of his recommendation letters.

Mawi’s Father Haileab was killed by a drunk driver. He was riding his bike home when he was hit by a drunk driver. His father was so much too so many. He helped everyone in the community. He is missed by all who knew him. With this two of the most inspiring people in Mawi’s life were taken too soon by drunk drivers.

Mawi in his commencement address brought back his teachings of his mother, “never forget where you came from”. Just a simple act reminded him of this. During his job his sophomore year, he saw someone help a woman with a simple task. This helped remind him of what his mother had said, and reminded him of where he came from.
