Nullification Crisis

  • Election of 1828

    This was between John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. In the result of the election, Jackson won and became President of the United States.
  • Tariff of Abominations

    Was put into place to protect northern industrial interest, but it spread economic hardship on the South. The economic hardship was that the prices on manufactured good went up and the loss of European markets for southern exports, which consisted of cotton. Then that made the southerners upset and South Carolina voted to veto the bill, but Congress and the President disagreed. Therefore South Carolina threatened to leave the union if they wouldn’t listen to their opinion.
  • Tariff of 1832

    This was a protection is tariff to use as a remedy for the conflict that was created in result of the Tariff of 1828.
  • Proclamation to the People

    This was a speech that President Jackson delivered to the people of South Carolina to let them know his answer to the Ordinance of Nullification that South Carolina is trying to do. He explains why he is against that ordinance and that he will do everything in his power to carry on with enforcing the laws of the US. Because the Ordinance would cause disunion.

    Was swore in for his second term in the Presidency.
  • Force Bill

    This allowed the president power to use the military to enforce the collection duties on imports.
