Jan Van Eyck died January 9, 1441. He was a Flemish painter and one of the earliest Early Netherlandish to use the oil glazing technique. Thus, it was believed that he had invented the oil glazing technique, however oil based painting existed before him himself. Despite this, his mastery in the oil glazing technique made him traditionally known as the “father of oil painting.”

The Hundred years war was a series of battles that continued from 1337-1453 by the House of Valois and the House of Plantagenent; it can be devided into three phases, the Edwardian War(1337-1360), the Caroline War(1369-1389), and the Lancastrian War(1415-1429).

Albrecht Durer was born on May 21st, 1471. Durer was an important painter in his day and time in the Northern Renaissance as well as famous for his graphic works. At a young age, he was trained as a metal worker, and later applied these methods in his woodcuts and engravings. He was also a well traveler, many of his trips being to Italy influencing his art work, which impacted other northerners as well.
