Nixon was a secretive president causing suspicion in Americans. They knew he was hiding something. "Dirty tricks" were used from hecklers to disrupt and try to increase suspicion towards Nixon. When the Watergate scandal was going on, Nixon illegally ordered the CIA to call off the scandal with the FBI for further investigation. This created a huge problem for Nixon. Nixon had advisers coaching them to lie in court. This all lead to the impeachment of Nixon, leading him to resign.
