Nebraska Football Started in 1890 and were known as the Old Gold Knights. Nebraska's first year of play was in the independent league. -
A New Name
Two years after the "Old Gold Knights" was created Nebraska quickly changed to the "Bugeaters". The Bugeaters also played in the Western Interstate University Football Association. -
Turn of the Century
Nebraska changed their name for the last time to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. -
School Record Win Streak
through 1911-1915 The Cornhuskers went on a 34-game win streak which has still not been beaten by the university since. -
World War 1 Slump
Due to World War 1 college teams across the nation began to struggle at the loss of young men to play for their teams causing Nebraska to have one of it's only losing seasons. -

In 1970 Bob Devaney led the Huskers to their first National Championship over LSU winning 17-12 -

Nebraska and Devaney had turned into a powerhouse beating the number 2,3, and 4 teams in the nation in 1971 to secure the Championship season -

Nebraska had to play Oklahoma in 1971 which was called the game of the century and Nebraska outscored Oklahoma 35-31 -

The Orange Bowl Once Again
In the 1983 season Nebraska had gone undefeated and steamrolled right to the national championship against Miami. Nebraska ended up losing 17-16 due to the NCAA not having overtime implemented yet. Tom Osborne could have kicked a PAT and tied the National Championship and could have been National champions but went for two to be outright National Champions. -
