    in 1727 the Chitimacha tribe settled west of the Mississippi River. Most people thought this tribe was destroyed but it was discovered that they were still flourishing and most settled in Charenton, Louisiana.

    In the mid 1800s the Chitimacha Tribe had to sue the United states government for rights and rights to the name of their land

    As the Chitimacha was starting to grow, families of the tribe started settling in other places. Around 16-18 families settled around the Grand River but most of the tribe remained in Charenton
