At this time there was great religious turmoil. Five Carthusian monks from London Charterhouse monastery were hung in Tyburn, London because they refused to acknowledge Henry VIII as head of the Church of England. -

Written by Myles Coverdale and John Rogers, this was the first English translation of the bible to be printed. -

Matthew-Tyndale Bible
John Rogers, who helped Myles Coverdale, went on to write his own version of the English bible in 1537, making the 2nd printed version.This was the first English Bible translated from the original Biblical languages of Hebrew & Greek. John Rodgers published this bible under the false name, "Thomas Matthews", hence the Matthew Tyndale name.
