My Step Moms Diabetes

  • Working Through It

“First we must recognize this way that our brains will trip us up, and be prepared to work around it.” Pg 8. When my step mom first found out she had diabetes it was hard for her because her mental mindset had to change. So when she went out to eat and she wanted to order something she had to watch what she ordered so she didn’t mess with her blood sugar levels. At least she went out and did something about it, some people don’t do anything about it and then die from it.
  • Routines

“If we establish patterns of behavior we just routinely follow, we don’t have to think.” Pg 9. After my step mom was diagnosed with diabetes she had to adjust to a completely new life style. She had to prick her finger everyday, she had to pack special lunches, she had to take a handful of vitamins. After so long she got used to it. Pricking her finger didn’t hurt and she always remembered to take her pills. But in taking the pills and pricking her finger she’s able to life a healthier life.
  • Then V. Now

“solutions with immediate strong benefits strike us as much more attractive than solutions with less immediate results — even if those benefits will be many times greater later!” Pg 8. Now that my step mom has to take all these pills and shots and pricking she realizes that if she would’ve eaten healthier when she was younger because she wouldn’t have the complications she has with life today. Even though she made poor decisions, it has shaped her into the amazing woman she is today.
