Read Across America Month
In Kindergarten Dr. Seuss became one of my favorite authors. In March the school would have many theme-related activities from various Dr. Seuss books. My favorite was Green Eggs and Ham, and being allowed to make it with my classmates. -
Accelerated Reading
AR is a computer program that helps teachers monitor their student's independent reading skills. Being able to choose a book of my choice and test gave me a sense of control in my learning. Being able to cash in your points for prizes was a great way to keep kids motivated to read. -

My second-grade teacher inspired my love for reading by introducing chapter books to me and the different genres they provided. -
Silent Reading
In the third grade, we would read silently for thirty minutes. This was significant to me because I remember completing my book before most and getting in trouble for talking. -
CRCT
I was introduced to standardized reading in the fourth grade and began noticing the stress correlated with standardized testing. -
Summer Reading
In fifth grade, I remember taking summer reading seriously in preparation for middle school. Luckily I did because the first assignment was about the summer reading. -
Read Out Louds
I began to notice the skill gap between me and my classmates during the read-out-loud. This made me want to help my friends that were struggling. -
Screen Vs. Print
After the Kindle was introduced to the public E-books became very popular. However, I remember my frustration with making the switch. -
Reading with My Children
My parents did not read with me as a child. After learning the impact of reading with your children I made sure to read with my children daily. -
Reading for Information
I recently became interested in financial literacy which motivated me to purchase multiple books on various topics. I now understand the importance of seeking knowledge through books.
