My Reading History

    We had a school wide reading week activity. For every 30 minutes of reading we did, we would get a balloon. Each balloon had a tag on it with our name and school address. At the end of the week, the entire school let our balloons go and we would wait and see how far our balloons would go and who we were get a response from.

    Lifetime love of reading

    The first chapter book that I read in the summer following 2nd grade waas Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I loved it! It created a passion for reading that I still have today.

    Escape Realiy
    Figured out that you can be anywhere you want to be if you are reading a book about that place or a book that is taking place in that setting. The characters in the book become your friends and family and you can be anything you want to be.

    I had a time of less appreciation for reading during high school. I figured out that I like reading for enjoyment much more than reading assigned specific books.

    Read Dr Seuss books to my oldest daughter because she thought they were funny. However, she learned how to read during all the repetitive reading.

    During these years we have had 3 more daughters and have instilled in them a respect and love of books and reading. As one learns to read, we have them read to the younger girls. Our youngest daughter is just now learning to read and can't wait to start reading to her nephew.

    During my experience of substituting, I would read Junie B Jones to my elementary classes. They enjoyed the stories and would ask me the next time they saw me if I would read it again. I hope that I sparked an interest for some of them to read as well.

    Take my girls to the library with me regularly. They have their own library cards and I encourage them to pick out books on topics they are interested in.

    My husband got me a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas! He thought it would stop me from bringing more books into the house.... it didn't.

    Pass the love along
    Buy and read books to my grandson as often as possible. Right now he likes to eat the books but he will also bring them to me and sit with me for a story.
