My Reading History

  • Just getting started

    Just getting started
This was the time I was getting started in reading. Learning words and how to form sentences was crucial.
  • First Grade

    First Grade
This was a time when our teacher was helping us in the classroom with group reading activities.
  • One of my favorite series of books

One of my favorite series of books
I started reading Goosebumps for school and for fun. I used to buy them at the book fairs the school would hold.
  • The BFG

    The BFG
Reading the BFG by Roald Dahl was crucial to understanding what was written. It was a great book but complex and made me think.
  • Middle School

    Middle School
In middle school we started to use more textbooks and reading for content. It was difficult to transition from fiction to textbooks but my teachers made it easier by breaking down the material into small parts.
  • Freshman Year of HS

    Freshman Year of HS
In my English class my freshman year we read the Catcher in the Rye. At the time, the book was hard to grasp and that's when I realized that I needed to be reading something that catches my eye/attention in order to maintain focus on the book.
  • Sophomore Year of HS

    Sophomore Year of HS
Fahrenheit 451 was a book that I grasped onto a lot during this year. It was interesting and drew me in. Another reason was my teacher said how much people should read the book and how others wanted to ban the book for so long. It made it that much more interesting.
  • Junior Year of HS

    Junior Year of HS
This time we read the Grapes of Wrath. Once again, at the time the book was boring to me. I may have to go back and read some of these books over to see if I have the same mindset on them as I did back in high school. Although they were complex reads, they weren't interesting enough and it made it that much harder to read.
  • Senior Year of HS

    Senior Year of HS
Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer were the books we read my senior year. The reason they were read senior year is because of the language in the books and how much more mature we were in our education and age to be able to read them. They were amazing and I will continue to read them with my children.

    Currently
After high school, most of the stuff that I read was/is based on true stories, biographies and autobiographies, mobsters, gangs, murders, etc. It is interesting stuff and I feel like I have random knowledge at times in conversations.
