My Reading History

  • Sesame Street

    Sesame Street
My parents would always let me watch Sesame Street because of its educational value with learning letters and words.
  • Dr. Seuss

    Dr. Seuss
I remember my parents and kindergarten teacher reading selections to me such as "The Cat in the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham".
  • Leap Frog

    Leap Frog
I would practice reading and writing using Leap Frog readers. These resources truly helped me understand how to read on my own. I would practice day in and day out. They were also very entertaining, which made it fun to learn. Learning is better when it is fun.
  • Prize Winner

    Prize Winner
I entered a contest in my school library to win a book of my choice. I chose a Star Wars book because I was a huge fan of the movies. I read that book all the time.
  • Ms. Spotty

    Ms. Spotty
In elementary school, our classes would visit the library twice a week. The librarian, Ms. Spotty, would read to us and teach us about book. We could also check out books to read on our own.
  • Reading Wasn't my Thing

    Reading Wasn't my Thing
As I grew a little older and entered middle school, I avoided reading. I didn't enjoy reading. I only read books if I had to, not because I wanted to. I spent my free time outside instead of in a library reading books. The only articles I enjoyed reading involved sports. I was always an athlete growing up and sports excited me. I would read sports illustrated.
  • Middle World

    Middle World
Although I did not like reading, I had to read books in school because we were tested on them. A book we read in 7th grade called Middle World, was a book I actually grew fond of. I started to enjoy reading again because it was interesting.
  • High School English

    High School English
In high school, we read books throughout the entire year. There were a few books I enjoyed reading (Of Mice and Men & 1984),however I was not amused by most selections. Reading these books felt like a job. I was uninterested and became tired of reading. I was a good student, so I would read them anyways to keep up my good grades.
  • Frankenstein

    Frankenstein
During my senior year of high school, we were assigned to read Frankenstein. I completely procrastinated this assignment because it was winter break and I believe in just resting, instead of focusing on school work. I began to read the book because it was necessary to keep my straight A's. However, I actually read it and enjoyed it very much. I realized that I can enjoy things I never thought I would like because they didn't fit my genre.
  • ESPN

    ESPN
I love reading about sports. Sports have always been a huge part of my life. Nearly anything I read involves sports. I enjoy reading about cinema as well. Conspiracy theories involving the government spike my interest as well. As a college student, I have to read material all the time. I do not enjoy most of it. However, I loved my psychology book and reading about the human mind. I have also enjoyed our ESL text. Learning about how we learn language is fascinating with all the theories.
