Girl reading

My Reading Experience

  • PRE-K

    PRE-K
I learned to read before I went to Kindergarten. My older brother was one year older and after he finished his homework my mom would have me do the same thing that he had done for the day.

    K-5th grade Elementary school
During Elementary I didn't enjoy reading. When we had reading tests I was always on grade level, but hated to read. I did not like in class when the teachers would make me read out loud. We had a reading called popcorn reading and you could be called on at any time. If we were reading in class and going down the line, I would count how many people were in front of me and practice the paragraph that I would read out loud. I would miss out on all the reading beforehand because I was practicing.
  • Elementary Library

    Elementary Library
I loved going to the Library in Elementary school. Our librarian Mrs. Peterson would always sit us down on a blue mat and read a book out loud. My favorite book she read out loud to us was Tikki Tikki Tembo.
  • Middle School

    Middle School
In middle school my teacher had us create a Poem book. We wrote different types of poems and I remember crying at home about how hard the assignment was. I tried my hardest and did my best and the teacher gave me a C-. I remember throwing it in the garbage as I walked out of the classroom. I decided I wasn't going to try again for the teacher. I now teach with the teacher and she is one of my Favorite people.
  • Jr High

    Jr High
Jr High English was terrible and I don't think I ever stepped foot in the library at the Jr. High. My 8th-grade teacher caught me passing a note to another student and called my mom about the note. I ended up getting in a little bit of trouble at home. So, I decided I wasn't going to try in English and had a really bad attitude during the class. I barely passed.

    High School
During high school, I remember reading mostly historical literature. I had a teacher that taught mostly Shakespeare. He would take words from Shakespeare and he would give us a list of 10 words and their definitions. We would have to spell the words correctly and write its definition. I didn't care anything about Mr. Shakespeare and the other class was called American Literature. It was so boring.
